Chalkbeat Detroit Senior News Correspondent Erin Einhorn moderated a panel this morning featuring Dr. Nikolai Vitti, the new superintendent of the Detroit Public Schools Community District. The event was his first major public appearance since taking over the struggling district last week. Also on the panel was Herman Gray, the President and CEO of United Way for Southeastern Michigan, and John Rakolta Jr., the CEO of Walbridge who serves as a co-chair of the Coalition for the Future of Detroit Schoolchildren.

The Mackinac Policy Conference is an annual gathering of Michigan’s movers and shakers, led by the Detroit Regional Chamber. It is held at Mackinac Island’s Grand Hotel.
