Ready to roll up your sleeves and clear the way for a brighter education future right here in Memphis? Join New Memphis for a day of service and community building! This event will be held at multiple school sites around Memphis in need of a little TLC before the school year gets underway. We’ll all gather at Westside Elementary School for check-in and breakfast. From Westside, volunteers will be divided into groups, each of which will be launched to one of four school sites set to receive some sprucing. Schools include: Delta Prep, Treadwell Elementary, Westside Elementary, and Westside Middle. The greater the turnout, the greater the impact! This event is open to family, including kids. We’ll provide breakfast. And we guarantee you’ll leave knowing you’ve made a tangible difference in the lives of Memphis students. Good honest work can get a little messy. Please wear close-toed shoes and clothes that can handle some dirt or paint.

Office Hours are an informal time to meet with Chalkbeat reporters, learn about what we do, and bring us your feedback and story ideas. In October's rendition of office hours, we're linking up with the official launch of the Memphis Restorative Justice Coalition. We'll have a booth set up and will be excited to hear your thoughts about restorative justice in schools...and just any education issue on your minds. Join us on Oct. 26 from 5 - 6:30 p.m. at Regina's Cajun Kitchen, 60 North Main. This event is sponsored by the Memphis Urban League, Memphis Urban League Young Professionals, Profound Gentlemen, and The Dividend. It is made possible by the Tennessee Educational Equity Coalition.
